Scheduling update!
Added 2020-01-06 05:19:47 +0000 UTCHey guys! I still have more weekly DOTU pages planned, but they're gonna be pushed out one more week. I have to buckle down and get the new edition of Art of Death out this week. I spent the past several days setting up my self-publishing imprint, freshening up the cover typography, chipping away at the print book formatting, and taking the first step toward getting a lawyer. I know a lot of people are still in holiday traveling mode this week anyway.
December letters went out around the end of December, and the Secret Gallery illustration went up a few days ago too.
On the publishing front, Dreamspinner Press has gotten themselves a lawyer to help them with restructuring. They insist it's not a bankruptcy, but... well, it is. According to their last update, all their past debts from November and earlier are frozen, while future amounts will supposedly be paid on time. If that's true, then the good news is that I'll at least be paid some of the royalties I earned on Art of Death. The bad news is it'll only be a fraction of what they owed me before, and they will probably try to negotiate down the amount they owe me. Hence my need for a lawyer. (And thanks to dirchansky for pointing me toward a source for volunteer/reduced rate lawyers!)
Meanwhile, your ko-fi donations and orders from my new shop REALLY helped me with the upfront costs of getting these books back out. ISBNs are priced ridiculously. One is $125, 10 is $295, and 100 is $575. The Lychgate series alone will burn through 6 (print and ebook each need their own), and I also have Merritt's Story in the pipeline, AND there's the possibility of audiobooks, and of course DOTU print books. So it didn't make sense economically to get the 10 pack if even two 10-packs would cost more than a 100-pack. Thanks to you guys, I had about half the cost of the 100-pack covered, so it was feasible. It's nice to pay ~$5 per ISBN instead of ~$30.
Funds are still too limited for me to outsource stuff like formatting, so I'm doing that on my own. It's a slow process, especially for the first time while I'm setting up my templates. So I had to shuffle my schedule around a bit. But once it's done, it's done!
By the way, there's exactly one collector grade DOTU enamel pin left in the shop! I'm going to announce the shop publicly in the next day or two, so if any of you wanted to grab that one, now's a good time!
