A bit of a late comment, so I don’t know if you’ll even see it, but I’ll write it anyway. I have been thinking a lot about what you said — that you sometimes believe that “the guy who edits the film” doesn’t matter, because your online representations live along with more people and exist in more heads. But I think, at least speaking from my experience, it’s not only your work and the way you present yourself in inner-circle videos that I rely on when I think of you. There is something beneath that, like a canvas that holds all of your representations together. I don’t see it fully, and I don’t think it’s possible for anyone (online or offline), but the little parts of it are visible, particularly when we observe another person in-time. What I mean is, when we see how a person reacts to the events in their life, or in the world — not the statements they make — but more like the way they go through them, how they seem to feel, how they act (I know it’s very abstract, but give me a couple of more lines to explain myself). For instance, with you, it’s often not what you say, but when you abruptly fall silent —or just say less than usual —like in the case of this recent tragedy with Tyler Robinson, or that awful thing that happened in February (I almost physically felt your pain day by day). I think, paradoxically, it’s those moments when I feel the “connection” with you the most; it’s not something you show, but something one cannot help but see. Another “connection” trigger is your thoughts —the themes to which you return now and again, revolve around them in all of your representations. Sometimes it's something I've also been thinking about, but you take it one step further in your thought, and I think, “yes, of course, you’re right,” and then I can take this one step and then keep walking by myself. It’s at once insight, recognition, and inspiration. Ah, I’m getting too abstract again, but I hope that I managed to convey at least something, because I don’t want you to think that you don’t matter. In fact, it’s quite the opposite: if not this background canvas, if not this core of yours, I probably wouldn’t stay here for this long. Please know that you do matter a great deal, and although, yes, I don’t really know you beyond those tiny but powerful moments, those moments make me desperately want to know you more.

RUSH HOUR MENTIONED

Emily Mettner

the party ended 2 hours ago and she’s still here but i just wanted to say thank you so much again for this!! i honestly have been thinking about this constantly since the hour you posted it and i am so grateful for your insight about sobriety! it feels a little juvenile to be so worried about “fomo” or lost friendships when this issue is something that WILL hurt you or someone else so gravely in the future. definitely something worth fighting for to prevent the inevitable disaster. i appreciate you as always and genuinely can’t explain to you how impactful this has been on me & my outlook on sobriety <3
