Orphan planets are planetary objects that don't orbit a star, but rather drift through space. They could have been ejected from their star systems or formed independently. These planets don't have stars (that’s why they are orphans, everything is like people😁), move freely in interstellar space and come in different sizes: from small to gas giants. Due to the lack of a nearby heat source, they are usually very cold (a star always provides warmth, just like parents do for children). Orphan planets can form by gravitational ejection from a star system, the disintegration of binary star systems, or formation from interstellar gas and dust without a star formation step.
