Newsletter: week of Nov. 18

It's been a busy week around here! On Monday, I published my ethics statement video; on Thursday, I interviewed Casey Neistat about being a creator; and today, I published my review of the Google Pixel Buds Pro 2.

I'll post that interview with Casey exclusively for Patreon subscribers early next week, so stay tuned. I also owe you all a BTS from my Pixel Buds video. So next week looks like it will be a great time to be Patreon subscriber <3. In the meantime, here is everything I have been reading, watching, and listening to this week. As always, feel free to share what you have enjoyed in the comments below or in the chat!

Things I read:

Alright, it's official! I am now spending more time on Bluesky than Threads. This weekend, I plan to customize it a bit more using the above Verge article and this list of third-party tools. Shout out to everyone who linked their accounts in the chat earlier this week. If you haven't done so and feel comfortable, please pass along your account; I would love to follow you!

It is just a website dedicated to the "faithful reproduction of the bitmap version of the Chicago typeface created by Susan Kare for Apple Computer in 1984." But it is also very pretty. I love a single-purpose site.

I was so sure I didn't want an M4 Mac Mini until I saw this. Between the great design, USB-A ports, and SD card slot... I'm drooling.

"Wild Geese" by Mary Oliver

I am working on a video about a cheap camera that you can buy on TikTok for $45. I think my video will revolve around using what you have to tell a story that only you can. As I discussed this with my partner, Hannah, she reminded me of this poem. It might just make its way into the video.

Things I watched:

It has been a while since I watched a Dude Perfect video, but now I understand why they are so popular. Everyone is so personable and fun, the editing moves right along, and the games are creative. I watched this whole video, and when I got to the end, I was shocked to find it was 25 minutes long. I don't even like basketball!

This is a Vox video, if I have ever seen one. And it is a wild sight to see the Canadian government adopting this style of video production. If you do watch it, be sure to check out the comment section 😬.

Matty has always been one of my favorite internet chefs. Watching his content teaches me a lot about cooking, but more importantly, it gives me great editing ideas. However, I miss the days when he made this show in his small home kitchen.

Things I listened to:

It has not stopped. I am going crazy and blinking twice because I need rescue.

This was my go-to ambient playlist this week. It's a touch more upbeat than my usual lofi, with visuals so great that they are, at times, distracting.

This feels revealing, but I revisited Maroon 5's first album, Songs About Jane, this week. And what an album! It's a shame they sold out so quickly.

Things I bought... hehe:

I broke down and made a few purchases this week. I bought Half Alive concert tickets, a 6L WANDRD Rogue Sling, and new tires for my car. (That last one was a need, absolutely not a want 😭.) What sling is everyone else using these days?

Okay! That's all I have for now. I appreciate you so much, bud. Have a great weekend.

Comments

Full review of the sling coming soon! I just needed something bigger than a typical sling but not huge and too heavy for single shoulder carrying.

Ahh I love ‘Wild Geese’ – such a beautiful poem (and I also included it in my newsletter a couple of weeks ago). That Moment sling is v cool. I’m using a Bellroy Lite Sling atm. It’s great for day-to-day use and you can fit a surprising amount of stuff in there. Wouldn’t work for most cameras, though, even if I can smoosh a tiny mirrorless in there.
