Newsletter: week of 12/09
Added 2024-12-13 17:15:18 +0000 UTCI will get right into it because it was a big week for Google!
Tech things I read:
Google and Samsung's Android XR Headset and Glasses
Last year, while making a video about the history of smart glasses, I realized that if I stayed in the tech creator space, my future would include many of them. And that has been confirmed with Google's latest announcement of AR/VR software and hardware. There isn't much to see (π) yet, but from the sounds of early demos, a Samsung Vision Pro / Meta Quest competitor and a sort of Google glass pair of glasses should be launching in the coming years.
Project Astra | Exploring the future capabilities of a universal AI assistant
Project Astra is a real-time AI assistant that can utilize a camera to see the world around it. It knows what things are and where you left them and can answer questions.
Google's newest quantum computing chip, Willow
Quantum computing is hard for my brain to compute, but this thread was incredibly helpful. Basically, we got organized qubits, resulting in fewer errors at MUCH faster computer times.
In an attempt to understand it all.
What I watched:
SPOTS: A Research Piece On Modern Street Skating
A simple research piece on skate spots, but it's loaded with style.
Google β Year in Search 2024
Tears running down my face.
Yes, He Was Actually That Good (Philip Seymour Hoffman)
I think he was the greatest actor of all time, so when this popped up on my feed, it was an immediate click. RIP!
What I listened to:
I must know how they managed to keep this camera so steady despite mounting it to a truck bed. Could it be a Ronin 4D? Also, 11/10 peaceful vibes; I watched this person play for a very long time.
If you ever have the chance to see Sir Woman live, take it! They are incredibly soulful and full of life, and the crowd (me) eats them up.
Ok, that is about it. I am just about to head out for a demo with Meta's Orion AR glasses prototype. Wish me luck, and drop any questions you have in the comments! As always, let me know what you have read, watched, and listened to below. I appreciate you! -becca

2024-12-14 22:31:12 +0000 UTCThat year in search video was so good. Finally, a good rewind π I approve of the disproportionate amount of bluey (and on a personal note, the inclusion of Matt Stutzman because he's a gem of a human being)
