In the English dub it is implied that the one guy intentionally killed himself with the gag while watching his boyfriend get chopped up, but in the Japanese it's implied that his shock made him suck it in and that killed him. I'm not sure what the manga says, but I'd be interested to know because both have very different but equally impactful sentiments.

Knowing Jojo the first time the shrinking dude ran into the pack of rats I thought the fight was going to end with them ripping him limb from limb. Rats are damn vicious, and so is this show. I'm really surprised they didn't go that route.

The reason it's such a common thing is because the wires in the brain that deal with arousal/genitals and the ones that deal with your feet are incredibly close together. Close enough that, in a lot of people, those wires are crossed. Those brain wires being crossed leads to feet causing arousal in some people, even if they don't know it. The only reason i know any of this is because I have a really weird patchwork wellspring of knowledge, and it's anyone's guess on what I know about any given topic.
