GITJ Post 368: Meanwhile, At Evolution

โ€œThat doesnโ€™t make any sense,โ€ the clinical tech replied, shaking her head and going back to the spreadsheet on her tablet.

โ€œI agree it sounds impossible, Marcia,โ€ her blonde coworker agreed, tapping her own tablet to pull up some of Subject MM-1Aโ€™s historical data, โ€œbut why would Nadia make that up?โ€

โ€œMaybe it was the friend, Subject 14a, this, uhhโ€ฆโ€

A few taps on a screen.

โ€œโ€ฆStevens, Shanette Stevens. Maybe she was embellishing, or had misheard, misseen. Knocking over clothing racks in a department store with her voice? Cโ€™mon.โ€

โ€œI know itโ€™s a second-โ€ฆor, like, third-hand story, but remember what her plethysmography was like last time?โ€

โ€œI know, I know,โ€ the young, dark haired woman answered, pushing her dark-rimmed glasses back up into place and recalling MM-1Aโ€™s lung volume. This was too much, too weird. Carnegie Mellon hadnโ€™t prepared her for all thisโ€ฆintrigue. She was good with numbers, but not this shit.

โ€œDonโ€™t you think we should investigate? Or tell Kristina?โ€

Marcia replied quickly. โ€œNoโ€ฆno. We donโ€™t say anything to Dr. Zhestakova yet. Letโ€™s, uhโ€ฆโ€

Marcia considered the options. They could bring MM-1A inโ€ฆor they could ignore it. The idea of bringing them in had her in shivers. The last time MM-1A had been in the lab sheโ€™d made it abundantly clear she didnโ€™t want to be here, that she wanted to be with him. They were still fixing the crack in the ceiling, and the containment lab was made of strong, military-grade shit. But she knew what the handbook said and what might happen to the whole team of them if they broke protocol.

โ€œFine,โ€ Marcia finally decided, โ€œcall her in.โ€
