also, respectfully, i don’t see how it’s dragging out. we already saw the make up between onyx and keane, and we haven’t see any progress with kai and axel until VERY recently. if she keeps going back to onyx and keane every other chapter, progress isn’t gonna be made between the side pairing. it’s not dragging out at all - you just don’t like the pairing, and that’s fine. but for people who DO like them, the pacing is actually pretty good, considering how hard the author had to work to even get a single chapter done

I often wonder if it’s better to let an author know why you’re unsubscribing from their Patreon because you don’t like the direction it’s going, or if you just quietly leave. I personally feel i have no issue with developing the side couple, however we were most definitely left on a cliffhanger with the main couple? I do agree though, this is in no way a redemption arc. He hasn’t apologized or come to terms with whatever he’s dealing with from what he did to Onyx and Keane. However, I do think he deserves one. Onyx’s dad is the one I think in no way will ever deserve a redemption arc. What Axel did was out of line and horrible without a doubt, but I do think his character can be redeemed as long as he proves its worth it to Keane and Onyx. In what way? Perhaps there is no way, but we will see soon. Thanks for your insight! I don’t think anyone has acknowledged that this isn’t a redemption arc, so thank you!

Idk about other commenters, but any of my comments reacting to the toxic behavior aren't meant as a complaint or dig at the author, they are just my reaction to what's unfolding. It's the same as a comment saying "omg, that's so sweet!", just "omg, how toxic!" instead, y'know? Also, I know how hard it can be for people to recognize or acknowledge that they've been through an unsafe, nonconsensual sexual situation. You never know what other commenters have been through or are going through, so when there is no content warning, the audience can't really be blamed when something happens that totally catches them off guard. Everyone reacts to stuff differently 🤷 and depending on the genre, the reaction the creator wants will differ. I know I definitely want people to react scared and disgusted after reading my works of horror 😂 when I see elements of dark romance in fiction, I just assume the author wants that "oh no, that's awful 😱" reaction 😅🤷

To be honest, I hate both of these characters. They are two assholes, Kai is barely redeemable, Axel just isn’t. Honestly, the more this side plot goes on, the less I get what it has to do with the main story. I think it would have been much better done as a few panels dispersed between main story panels. Exactly this - it is fiction, and this obviously wouldn’t be healthy irl but it’s just a story! and the author has the right to tell whatever story they want. I’ve seen webcomics where the author gives the main characters a happy life together bc that’s what people wanted, and the comments are complaining that the story has run dry - the author is clearly adding this new arc to keep things exciting in the universe. My guess is that Axel’s parents are homophobic or he has some sort of trauma with it. It doesn’t make sense otherwise because every other instance we’ve seen Axel, he’s just trying to get by in life. Something must’ve triggered when he saw Onyx and Keane… also, the fact that he didn’t even mention Keane and Onyx being together once since he’s gotten to the college makes me more suspicious of it. If he was truly homophobic to the core, he would’ve spat at Keane’s face when he first saw him.
